Spring Summer 2017: Thaïs Yoshioka x Uterqüe

I used the SS17 trend of trench coats as the starting point for my inspiration, exploring the classic sartorial icon’s history, uses, and cultural associations. In particular, I was inspired by the many personalities it has acquired by being worn by celebrities and in movies, imbuing it with mystery when in detective films, sexiness when on Brigitte Bardot and romantic charm when on Audrey Hepburn. Its use as a raincoat led on to exploring raindrops, inspiring the curved tear-drop shapes and sparkling embellishment. All things rain became the theme of the project with umbrellas inspiring the pleated structural shapes and wooden heels. The overall mood is sophisticated, elegant, glamorous and classic, inspired by the magical imagery created using rainy scenes in photography and film.
