Erdem

'Erdem SS17'

For my third term at London College of Fashion, I was assigned the luxury womenswear brand Erdem to design a capsule collection for. As if appointed footwear designer at the company, I aimed to build on and expand Erdem’s footwear range, bringing his aesthetic into a wider range of styles. Focussing on comfortable flat, mid and high block heels, I wanted to create a range that would be suitable for the day to night transition of a busy city lifestyle.

As part of a team of other classmates, we chose the following three words relating to Erdem as a starting point for our own personal research: ‘Femininity’, ‘Botanical’ and ‘Bold Colour’. I explored femininity in the physical form; the soft curves of the female body and the qualities of being a woman such as fragility, grace and beauty inspire the shape and feel of the shoes. For the ‘Botanical’ I explored the most classically feminine flower of all: the rose. Studying roses in art, photography and fashion, the delicate but bold flower inspired the details, prints and colour. The mood is supremely feminine, reflecting what I feel it means to be a woman: delicate but powerful and sexy but elegant.

Rich pink, red and white satins and blurred petal printed satin form the body of the shoes whilst minimal clear vinyl details and acetate heels add modernity and lightness. Extra luxurious details include touches of delicate lace and floral painted swarovski crystals. Femininity, charm, grace and beauty all spring to mind at the sight of these shoes: fit for a modern day Audrey Hepburn.
